Ora.House

A Collaborative Design Project Rooted in Contemporary Southern Craft

Ora.House is a collaborative design project that elevates and amplifies the work of contemporary craftspeople and artists from the Kentucky region whose designs offer a thoughtful counterpart to the more primitive aesthetic traditionally associated with the South.

Co-founded by Louisville-based design leaders Natalie Officer and Daniel Chaffin, Ora.House releases semiannual collections featuring their furniture designs alongside new works from a carefully selected trio of regional makers who share a modern, expressive point of view.

Each collection reflects a commitment to material integrity, sculptural form, and creative dialogue — honoring regional craft while redefining what Southern design can be.

The Collection

A growing family of sculptural forms designed to live beautifully and work effortlessly.

o.ottoman
A sculptural wooden backbend designed to adapt. Against a wall, it becomes a bench. In front of a chair, it serves as a stool. Standing alone, it reads as pure art. Featuring removable upholstery, it can shift with the seasons or evolve for any reason at all.

a.bench
Designed with a movable zipper cushion that can be positioned to suit both space and sitter. The adjustable placement creates open surfaces on either side that function as integrated tables. Interchangeable textiles offer flexibility, or remove them entirely for a bold, bare form that doubles as a sofa table.

r.hutch
Artful storage designed for long or lean hallways. Crafted in beech wood reminiscent of timeless turned tool handles, its curved shoulders feel distinctly current. Interchangeable soft door panels allow for customization and joy. Available in custom hand-painted finishes, Knoll Velvet Macaw and Moss, Point by Paul Smith Ivory and Ember, Gold and Black, Black and Khaki, Oath Leather by Isle Crawford in Carmine, and Wagon Lit Leather in Just Black.

r.hooks
A set of four handmade wall hooks inspired by the expressive shape language of Patricia Baldwin Seggebruch’s paintings. Translating gesture into sculptural utility, each set is crafted in ambrosia maple or beech, transforming everyday ritual into artful composition.

o.lamp
A study in balance, geometry, and glow. Featuring a solid beech wood base and a hand-blown glass globe created in collaboration with a local glass artist. The softly glowing blue globe and dimming capability allow the lamp to shift seamlessly from atmospheric warmth to functional light.

o.house cushions
Stackable sculptural forms offered in a variety of patterns and textures, designed to make floor seating playful, elevated, and beautifully intentional.

Behind the design

Natalie Officer + Daniel Chaffin

Ora.House is rooted in collaboration. Co-founded by Natalie Officer and master furniture maker Daniel Chaffin, the project brings together Natalie’s narrative-driven approach to interiors with Chaffin’s decades of experience in contemporary woodworking to create furniture that functions as both utility and sculpture.

As the founder of Natalie O Design, Officer has long championed regional artists and expressive materiality within her interior work. Ora.House extends that philosophy into furniture, pairing sculptural form with precision craftsmanship. Chaffin’s deep knowledge of fabrication and material integrity grounds each piece in structure and longevity.

With each biannual drop, Officer and Chaffin partner with contemporary artists and craftspeople from Kentucky and the broader Southern region in collaborative design processes. Together, they develop pieces that challenge the primitive and rustic associations often assigned to Southern aesthetics, presenting a more modern and expressive regional perspective.
